Bigsurkate and other updates

I got back home just before sunset last night, to find my solar power system unresponsive. I relied on the gennie last night, and tried to get the solar online. No luck. Someone had turned the PV switch off, and my gennie was not charging it today. Tomorrow, I have to run to town to replace groceries eaten by my dog sitter, propane for my appliances, restock on critter food, and all the usual, so I won’t get a chance to figure out what is wrong with the solar … Means I better get gas for the gennie back-up, as well, until I can read the manual, call my power guy, or otherwise become brilliant in solar power. I know, but it MIGHT happen!

My dogs sitter may have messed up my solar (or someone else?) but he had a fire laid out for me to Light last night, all four dogs were good, as were two cats, he hauled in firewood for a few days, and with all else, I have been warm, thanks to him.

Blaze got the contract for the Partington Rd clean-up. I understand there was a meeting between Blaze, Cal-Trans, and the Partington Ridge Road Association this morning. Will keep you posted as I can.

Friday the BSMAAC meeting is to be held at the State Park Conference Center, starting at 10 am. I will be attending. Kathleen Lee promised an agenda by end of business today, but so far, it has yet to find my inbox.

We have one more month of overnight closures at Rocky Creek, and then life will get a little easier for all of Big Sur. NOTE – I did not say “normal” – ain’t no such thing in Big Sur.

Glad to be home, and back doin’ what I do.

  1. Doin what you do is a full time job. But then, you didn’t even have to describe the sunset on the Pacific you came home to, I can imagine, and despite the solar snafu, and along with the gathered wood (despite eaten groceries) I’m sure it was a heartwarming glow, sky-wise, animal-wise. Outside of Brooklyn, I’ve only lived in 2 places within walking distance of a grocery. Up and down sides to that, too.
    Welcome back.

  2. Glad you back home safely and at least warm :)

  3. I must admit, I had a most incredible sunset tonight … I was trying to find my camera, in the tossed rubble of my traveling belongings, but it always takes a few days to sort out the jumble of my traveling life upon my return. It takes me 1/2 an hour to pack, and 3 days to unpack.

  4. Glad you made it home safe and did have a nice ready to light fire. I’m the other way around. Takes me a few days to pack and the first thing I do when I get home is unpack. Gotta love those critter sitters!

  5. LOL,my travel partner is like that … Takes her a week to pack, and a day to unpack … Such different critters we are, sitters or no. *muah*

  6. Takes me weeks sometimes to unpack! But just an hour or so to pack….funny….

  7. Hey! I’m in your territory (instead of the SW Oregon coast for another day or two)….. lovin’ it! Trying to work out a visit with Sam and Eby now….. ;)

  8. Kate…I hope all has returned to normal for ya. Any update?

  9. Updates for me are that I am working on the solar issue, and should be back online in a few days. I turned off the main switch, made sure all others were on (the PV switch had been turned off early in my vacation, thus the battery did nothing but drain dry in my absence) and I have sunny days to recharge the battery. My dog sitter denies complicity, even accidentally.

I am restocking the propane – two down, two to go. I will be SO glad to get the pad done for a large tank! I restocked the frig today, my dogs are getting attention again, and happy. Catching up, bit by bit. I did notice my toenails need trimming. I forgot to take my small wire cutters on vacation. What was I thinking? Only a Big Sur mountain woman … I make no apologies.

Catching up with my reporting, I think.

Nice to be home. Tomorrow I get help from Rock Knocker putting together the platform bed I got just before I left, and if there is time, the sofa table I am using for my nightstand, and if I am REALLY lucky, we will get the rolling drawers put together, if not, I’ll do that Friday. It will be nice to get up off the floor. I’m getting too old for this, but it is keeping my one leg in shape!

  10. I’m painting portraits and it’s intense, focused work, demanding short 2 hour sessions, maybe pushed to three before I’m 1/2 blind, cut by walks and naps. HOWEVER, I’ve read your post above and feel as if I’ve been living the life of a fungus in contrast. Chantrelle, anyway. Sounds like you’ve got the mountain organized, and I’m sure enrirons are breathing easy, now Kate’s home. In case you missed the news…I posted links to video of unbelievable 100 foot wave high ride — Garrett McNamara, Nazare, Portugal, over the weekend. Simply stunning. xxoo

  11. I did miss it! I will go look! But if video, may have to wait until I am in town with faster Internet.
